Extending your Trip

Important information you need to know before extending your trip

  • Extending your flight ticket is YOUR OWN responsibility. Taglit-Birthright Israel is giving you the gift of a free 10-day trip. Additionally, they are giving you the opportunity of extending your flight ticket, subject to availability of seats and conditions outlined below. It is NOT Sachlav | IsraelOnTheHouse or Taglit-Birthright Israel’s responsibility to deal with any part of your flight ticket extension. These changes are made on your own accord.
  • We highly recommend extending your ticket prior to your departure as seats are limited and ticket extensions are not always available.Extensions are NOT guarenteed. All extensions prior to departure from North America are made through Gil Travel. If you plan ahead to stay in Israel and you do not use your return ticket back to the US you must let us know immediately by email to enable us to cancel your ticket to avoid cancellation costs.
  • Taglit-Birthright Israel  airline tickets are issued in a specific class of service in economy  and therefore extensions are made within the same class. If there are no extensions available Within that class on the required date, you may need to change your return date, or pay a higher fee for the return date of your choice.
  • Flight extensions are non-refundable and therefore if you cancel your trip, you will forfeit this money. Please be aware of the days of the week when selecting your travel dates. Some airlines will fly on Friday night and on Saturday (Shabbat) so if you observe Shabbat, you must choose your new return dates carefully.
  • As a traveler you need to ensure that you are in posession of a valid passport with an expiration date of 6 months or more from your intended return date.

Extending your Flight Ticket prior to leaving the USA

Extend your stay in Israel with Gil Travel's Israel Trip Flight Extensions. The Gil Travel Application Form must be completed and sent in at least 15 days prior to departure. To get an approximate idea of the cost of extending your ticket, please review the airline ticket extension conditions.  Ongoing travel plans MUST NOT be confirmed until you have received written confirmation of your new return flight date from Gil Travel. Therefore, if you have not received confirmation, you MUST fly back on your original return date otherwise your original ticket will be cancelled and you will have to purchase a one way ticket home at your own expense.  For more info, check out Gil Travels FAQs

Extending your Flight Ticket once in Israel

When you are in Israel, if you plan to stay longer than the original or extended date, your counsellors can provide you with an information sheet on how to extend your ticket.  You can also review the Airline ticket extension conditions which explain how to extend your ticket. All changes to your return are subject to availability with the airline. If you do not contact the airline prior to the confirmed return date to arrange another flight home, then you risk having your return ticket cancelled being "NULL and VOID" and may have to purchase a one way ticket to return home at your expense.
