Humans of Birthright Israel: Joshua Ronen

Every year Sachlav Birthright Israel brings thousands of young Jews from all over North America to Israel for a free 10 day trip.  As a non-denominational organization, Sachlav prides itself on bringing Jews from all different backgrounds together. Over the years, Sachlav has become known for its diversity and its unique participants including but not limited to movie stars, professional photographers and LGBTQ advocates.  It is this diversity that sparked the need for Humans of Birthright Israel!  If your interested in going on a trip, REGISTER HERE. Josh is a 27 year old doctor from San Jose, California.  Known by everyone on his trip as “Dr. Josh,” Josh went to medical school in the Caribbean and completed his studies at several major cities in the USA.  He will be moving to Texas to start his residency in Internal Medicine this coming summer. There’s No Such Thing as a Free Birthright Israel Trip

Remember that free t-shirt you won? Was it amazing? Probably not. It's sad but true, but the likelihood of anything "free" being awesome, or not involving some kind of hidden cost, is quite low. That's why Birthright Israel isn't "free". When you add up the return flights, accommodation, food, transport, sites and activities, the whole package comes to around $3000. Fortunately, you're not the one paying the bill! A few exceptionally generous philanthropists, together with the Israeli government, have made it possible for you to have an incredible $3000 travel experience without having to fit the bill. If you ask us, that's pretty amazing, and is definitely not something to be taken for granted. If it's free, how good can it be? While it is a free Birthright Israel trip after all, and doesn't cost you a dime, it's definitely not a "cheap" experience. Maybe Next Year

I just got back from a trip around the US for IsraelontheHouse. The aim of my trip was to spread the word about Birthright Israel registration, and I was certain I'd be flooded by people wanting to sign up. Whoa! Was I in for a surprise? As I visited various colleges around the United States, I was surprised at how many people have such a clear view into their futures. When asked about coming on a trip, so many people gave me an answer along the lines of, “I plan on coming in 2 years.” I don't know about you, but I wish I could plan my life so perfectly years into the future. In all seriousness, I needed to point out to people that life doesn't always go according to plan and that it’s impossible to make such definitive plans so far in advance.  There are always things which can throw your plans out of synch.
